Fundación Ondoan Fundazioa signs an agreement with DFB

The Guardianship Institute of Bizkaia, dependent on the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and the ONDOAN Guardianship Foundation, a non-profit organization created by AVIFES and oriented to the legal protection and capacity of people with mental illness and the support of their families have signed a collaboration agreement today in a ceremony held at the Bar Association of Bizkaia and which has had the interventions of Isabel Sánchez Robles, Provincial Deputy of Social Action, Juan Calparsoro, Senior Prosecutor of the Basque Country and Miguel Ángel Núñez, president of the ONDOAN Guardianship Foundation and AVIFES, Provincial Deputy for Social Action, Juan Calparsoro, Senior Prosecutor of the Basque Country and Miguel Ángel Núñez, president of the ONDOAN Guardianship Foundation and AVIFES.

The ONDOAN Guardianship Foundation was founded by AVIFES, with the support of its more than 1,300 members and a track record of almost 30 years of providing care to this group through the deployment of a wide network of programs and support that evolve to respond to the diverse needs and emerging demands.

The purpose of this agreement is to regulate the collaboration between both entities for the provision of guardianship services for elderly people, residents in the Historical Territory of Biscay, who have had their capacity to act judicially modified and who, due to various circumstances, have no one to take care of them and watch over their rights and welfare.

The agreement begins with a gradual projection that foresees the assumption of 30 guardianships during the entire 2016 fiscal year, with the possibility of being extended for another year.

During the signing of the agreement, Miguel Ángel Núñez, President of ONDOAN and AVIFES, emphasized that “this act aims to reinforce the commitment of both AVIFES and the ONDOAN Guardianship Foundation to people with mental disorders and their families, those families who carry out work that is never sufficiently well considered and who wish to have the peace of mind of knowing that in the future and, especially, of defending their rights, their legal capacity as citizens with full rights”.

Likewise, the Deputy of Social Action, Isabel Sánchez Robles has celebrated the signing of this agreement and emphasized that “in some way or another, it is for all of them and their families; we want to offer them security, closeness and certainty regarding the future, a comprehensive protection. They will have the Provincial Council and ONDOAN with them, even when their families are missing”.

For his part, Mr. Calparsoro, Senior Prosecutor of the Basque Country, highlighted the progress achieved in recent years in the legal protection of people, especially people with disabilities.
