Through the figure of guardianship, which have been judicially determined, to persons with mental illness in the exercise of their legal capacity, i.e., guaranteeing their rights and the fulfillment of their obligations.
In its functions, the Foundation watches over these people and carries out the necessary actions aimed at achieving their integral development, their personal autonomy and full social integration, and ultimately, their better quality of life.
This action is carried out subsidiarily to the existence of family members who can provide such support.
Following our model of support provision, in the specific development of the support measures judicially established, we intervene in the following areas, always in compliance with what is determined by the judicial resolutions in relation to the person in need of support:

To provide the personal, emotional and relational support they need in order to complete their life trajectory, improve their autonomy and enhance the improvement of their quality of life, supporting them in the decision-making process, promoting activation and access to all services or resources they need and to which they are entitled.

To watch over their physical and mental health by carrying out the appropriate accompaniment and coordination.

Actions related to the management and economic administration of the assets of the persons, in a rigorous and efficient manner, answering before the judicial authority with the presentation of the corresponding annual accounts or the control measures that may be determined.

Representation of the person in the defense of his or her legitimate rights and interests, in accordance with the limits established by the judicial decision and with the appropriate authorizations in those cases where it is necessary.
The exercise of these Supports, through the figure of the Guardianship, is financed mainly through the Agreement signed with the Institute for the Provision of Support Measures, Gaikuntza (former Guardianship Institute of Bizkaia), an entity dependent on the Provincial Council of Bizkaia.
Likewise, since 2024, amounts from the Carmen Gandarias Foundation have been available for general financing of the entity.
